Control, transparency and traceability in China with Tetra PlantMaster

Tetra Pak in China has had a remarkable expansion in 2006. The latest projects are Yili Dingzhou, a milk plant located in the Hebei Province, approx. 200 km south east of Beijing and Bright, a yoghurt plant located in Shanghai close to the Tetra Pak Pudong facility. Both of these projects were completed incredibly fast; from order, through installation and commissioning to start of production in only a few months.

Another common denominator to both of these projects is the scope of the supply. Each one is a complicated plant, with many different types of equipment and components, run by top-notch automation systems, with process control, work execution and dispatching, recipe management, production reports and analysis, work tracking including traceability option. Tetra PlantMaster is the brain in a plant that can take care of all the small details needed to secure a repeatable production process with accuracy.

Yili Dingzhou

Yili, one of the biggest local dairy groups in China, has been a Tetra Pak customer for many years and is active in dairy ambient, dairy chilled, milk powder, cheese and ice cream. The new Yili Dingzhou plant will act as a main regional dairy hub and has strategic importance for Yili group. It is a turn-key UHT-plant that will produce UHT plain milk, flavored milk and LAD (Lactid Acid Drinks).

The order comprises various equipment including an advanced automation solution with a unique traceability option covering processing equipment and packaging equipment from Tetra Pak as well as filling machines. Installation, commissioning and training was also included in the order. ”We are very satisfied with the engineering and installation quality so far…”, says Mr. Wang Dong, Engineering Manager of Yili group.

Bright

Bright is the third biggest dairy group in China, partly owned by Danone. Brigth is mainly working in dairy chilled, but has also some interests in dairy ambient and ice cream. This plant order is the biggest yogurt installation in China and comprises a complicated combination including automation options with advanced traceability as well as a wide range of processing equipment, installation, commissioning and training. Fermented products have a very high growth rate in the Chinese dairy market and Bright will mainly produce stir type and drinking yogurts.

Strong local presence

Long-term cooperation with Yili and close communication during the pre-contractual phase where Tetra Pak showed full understanding for the customer’s needs and requirements was a strong reason for choosing Tetra Pak as a partner, as well as the offer of full scale traceability.

In the Bright project, the customer chose Tetra Pak due to the automation offer with modern traceability covering everything from intake to processing, but also because Tetra Pak could guarantee the delivery in time for the International Dairy Federation (IDF) conference, an important event with visitors from all over the world where the Bright group will act as one of the hosts. The Bright group intends to show their new modern production facility for yoghurts to the visitors of IDF and delays were not acceptable. ”Tetra Pak has run this project in a professional way and timely manner”, Mr. Yang, Engineering Director of the Bright group explains.

In both of these projects, the delivery time was extremely short, but Tetra Pak reputation for delivering high quality production concepts in time was a major reason for customers to choose Tetra Pak Processing and Plant Automation solutions.
