Record installation in United Arab Emirates

“The challenge was simple: How can we get this mammoth system into a plant that was built over 25 years ago and designed for a capacity a tenth of the current output?” said the Lacnor production and plant manager.

Based in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, leading juice producer Lacnor needed to upgrade its fastest growing line of products, 200 ml packs, by improving and replacing its packaging facilities. The finished line also needed to take on heavy production schedules almost instantly and remain upgradeable over time.

The new TBA/22 high-speed line from Tetra Pak provided the answer. Najib Nasr, general manager of Lacnor Nasr, says: “Tetra Pak acted as the catalyst of choice and presented us with an effective package that will allow us to successfully tackle our medium- to long-term strategic challenges.”

Fastest installation ever

The Tetra Pak technical team worked closely with the Lacnor project team on design as well as on mobilisation and installation schedules. Project manager of Tetra Pak Gulf Alexey Gavrilov led the project management phase before handing the installation over to the technical team headed by Per Erik Persson, Tetra Pak Gulf’s technical manager.

Installation and testing took less than four weeks – a record for such a complex installation and accomplished in mid-August heat with an average temperature of 45 degrees Celsius.

2 million packages in 10 days

During its initial commissioning phase, the TBA/22 line started producing test packs less than 20 minutes after its power-up. The packaging line was fully operational and adjusted within a record three hours. The line then delivered over 2 million packages in 10 days with less than 1 percent waste.

By taking initiatives and communicating with the customer in the early stages of the project, the team were able to solve most of the issues relating to equipment, training, installation, documentation and commerce.
