Bangladesh

This USDA-funded school milk programme started in April 2002 in one of the poorest areas north of Dhaka. By the end of 2002, approximately 2250 new jobs had been created along the value chain – On dairy farms, in new dairies and among distributors. School attendance increased from 70 per cent to over 90 per cent during this period.

Before the school feeding programme started Bangladesh had no UHT processors. Today three processors are supplying the market on commercial terms.
