The first UHT dairy in Georgia, set up with the support of venture capital and financing from Swedish entities, started operations during 2003. In order to support the dairy, and help it through the first years, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) decided to finance a three-year training programme for farmers, a demonstration farm for milk production and a comprehensive consumer education programme on nutrition. In 2005, this programme was prolonged for another four years.

At a recent visit to Stockholm, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili expressed his praise for the project.
