School milk in Lebanon
Through close co-operation with the private sector, Tetra Pak launched an innovative school based nutritional and educational campaign referred to as "Captain Mike". Two NGOs, IOCC (International Orthodox Christain Charities) which run the USDA programme and LEDA (Lebanese Development Agency), worked in partnership to implement and administer the programme.
Milk was provided three times a week to 30,000 children, based on more affluent private schools 'adopting' needy public schools. The programme was accompanied by a very comprehensive educational effort comprising both environmental and nutritional learning. The programme ended in 2005.
(Model: Financed by foreign development aid and private sector, and administered by NGOs)
