School milk in Palestine
To combat child malnutrition, the NGO ANERA (The American Near East Refugee Aid) successfully implemented the “Milk for Preschoolers Project” in Gaza. The program covered around 20 000 children who received 200 ml of fortified milk and a fortified wafer in school daily. Assessments showed that the program was very successful in improving the nutritional status of preschool children.
Tetra Pak has supported the programme in various ways including assistance in creating the packaging design. Four cartoon figures were created as mascots for the programme. Tetra Pak also provided advice and contacts regarding the fortification of the milk so that the nutritional deficiencies of the children in Gaza could be addressed.
Gaza and the West Bank
Cooperating with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the World Food Programme (WFP), Tetra Pak supports the school milk programme in Gaza and the West Bank. The programme reaches almost 150 000 school children.
