Tetra Pak receives 12 awards from the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance for manufacturing excellence
Tetra Pak received 12 Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Awards from the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM) during its annual award ceremony in Kyoto, Japan last night.
This year’s awards mark an important milestone for Tetra Pak. Three of the company’s factories – Kunshan (China), Milanovac (Serbia) and Izmir (Turkey) – were honoured with the TPM Special Award for outstanding lead-time reduction and delivery of consistent quality packaging material and service to customers.
During his keynote presentation, Selami Ulusoy, Director of Tetra Pak’s packaging material factory in Izmir, highlighted how the TPM approach has contributed significantly to the success of the business. He noted: “Since the introduction of the WCM programme in 1999, we have boosted our production by an average 10 per cent a year, without significantly increasing staff or equipment.”
“TPM is an empowering, structured and sustainable approach which enables us to optimize resources by questioning every loss and relentlessly improving our manufacturing activities,” he said.
The JIPM is among the world’s most authoritative institutes for evaluation of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) production implementation. TPM aims to reach zero machinery breakdowns, zero accidents and zero defects by involving all plant employees in the manufacturing process and integrating maintenance with production. The JIPM awards demonstrate adherence to best-in-class practices and commitment to continuous improvement as a world class manufacturer in terms of controlling and improving the quality, environmental impacts and costs of production.

It is thanks to the high level of discipline and dedication of all those involved that we continue to make improvements.”
Since Tetra Pak joined the JIPM programme in 1999, the company has won a total of 58 awards.
