72% increase in tonnage recycled in Egypt

Following a recycling peak in 2006, Tetra Pak Egypt hit a new recycling high in 2007 with a 72% increase in tonnage recycled compared to 2006, placing Tetra Pak Egypt as the second highest recycler in the Tetra Pak Greater Middle East cluster following Turkey.

In 2007, Tetra Pak Egypt sold 12,672 tons, of which 1,927 tons were recycled by local recycling plants. This marks a recycling rate of 15.2% of all Tetra Pak’s sales in Egypt. In 2006, Tetra Pak Egypt sold 9,329 tons, of which 1,119 tons were recycled, with a recycling rate of 12%.

Recycling in Egypt is done by three local recycling plants: Elf, Rakta and Al Obour. The lead recycling paper mill for Tetra Pak Egypt is Elf, with a whopping 1,223 tons from the total 1,927 tons in 2007.
