Australian Packaging Covenant

Tetra Pak in Australia was a founding signatory to the National Packaging Covenant in 2005 and has recently reaffirmed its commitment to the Australian Packaging Covenant for 2010-2012.

The Australian Packaging Covenant is a commitment by industry and governments to the sustainable design, use and recovery of packaging. It is Australia’s way of managing the impacts of packaging and offers a highly efficient and collaborative solution. The objective of the Packaging Covenant is to minimise the overall environmental impacts of packaging by pursuing these performance goals:

  1. Design: Packaging optimised to achieve resource efficiency and reduced environmental impact without compromising product quality and safety.
  2. Recycling: The efficient collection and recycling of packaging.
  3. Product Stewardship: A demonstrated commitment to product stewardship by organisations in the supply chain and other signatories.

As a signatory to the Australian Packaging Covenant, Tetra Pak submits action plans and annual reports to the Australian Packaging Covenant to outline its goals and performance against the covenant.

The founder of Tetra Pak, Dr Ruben Rausing, believed “A package should save more than it costs”. This tenet continues to underpin the activities of Tetra Pak around the world and the complete systems for processing, packaging and distribution we offer our customers.
