The release of CFCs, HCFCs and halons contributes to destroying ozone in the higher level of the atmosphere (stratosphere). In Tetra Pak, most of the substances with the highest ozone depleting potential, the CFCs and halons, were replaced by 2002. The remaining HCFCs are contained as a cooling agents in chillers and air-conditioning systems.
The chart below shows the share of ozone depleting emissions:
- 88% packaging material production
- 10% closures, straws and strips
- 2% processing and packaging equipment
