Forest Stewardship Council®

Products carrying the FSC® label are independently certified to assure consumers that they come from forests that are managed to meet the social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations. FSC® is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation established to promote responsible forest management.

Today FSC®-labelled Tetra Pak cartons are available in stores in several countries including Brazil, UK, Ireland, Argentina, China, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Thailand, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium and Australia.

The world’s first FSC®-labelled food and liquid carton was launched with British retailer Sainsbury in 2007, and since this first launch we have been carefully but continuously rolling out FSC®-labelled carton with customers in more and more countries. In 2010, 40 per cent of the company’s paperboard supply was certified by FSC®, with 8.5 billion cartons put on the market bearing the FSC® logo, enabling consumers to actively support responsible forestry.

The main constraint that does not allow us to roll out FSC®-labelled cartons everywhere today are the limited availability of FSC®-certified wood and the broad geographical reach of our market presence. FSC®-certified forests represent only the equivalent of 5% of the world’s productive forests today (Source: www.fsc.org March 2010).
