Doing What's Good
Sustainability is part of our DNA. In the words of our founder, “a package should save more than it costs”, referencing a package made with minimum amount of materials and superior benefits and this is the legacy that Tetra Pak strives to live up to today. We are committed to running our business in an environmentally sound and sustainable way.
Our actions demonstrate our commitment to protecting the environment and form the core of our environmental credentials. We are actively engaged in finding responsible solutions for the environmental challenges that we face in our industry as we see the environment as a fundamental driver of long-term business growth. We take a systematic approach to lower impacts by using energy more efficiently, favoring renewable resources, improving the entire supply chain and the performance of processing and packaging solutions with no compromise on the protection of the nutritional value of products.
Although we have already achieved good results today, they will be even better tomorrow. We are committed to continuously evaluating and improving our impact on the environment as we well recognize that today’s best performance will be tomorrow’s minimum requirement.
Climate Goal
Through improved energy efficiency and with increased use of renewable energy, Tetra Pak has cut its absolute CO2 eq. emissions by 12.9 per cent while increasing production by over 23 per cent over the last 5 years (a relative reduction of more than 30 per cent), according to just released independently audited figures (May 2011).
Forestry
Responsible sourcing and use of raw materials is important to us. By using responsibly-managed renewable materials in the production of our carton packages, we are securing a source of supply that will always be available.
We don't own the forests we source from, nor do we make paper. To ensure sound forest management practices, we have an engaged approach to sourcing and work closely with suppliers, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders globally (please click here for more information on our partnerships).
To ensure that the forests we source from are indeed growing, and managed in a way that promotes biodiversity and social fairness, we have instituted a Forestry Guideline. The guidelines define our requirements and ambitions, as well as ensure transparency of our activities and achievements. We have our performance independently audited to ensure accountability. Please, click here for our Forestry Guidelines.
Carton Recycling
We can’t afford to waste valuable resources. Tetra Pak is committed to being a world leader in sustainable recycling, promoting and encouraging more effective widespread recycling programs in the U.S. We are looking for ways to aggressively expand carton recycling within the next three years and led industry efforts to establish the Carton Council in 2008, with the objective to expand carton recycling in the U.S. For more information on Carton Council, please click here
