We aim to double the recycling rate by 2020 to 40%. In 2013, the global recycling rate of our packages reached 24.5%, recycling 43 billion packs, 4 billion more than 2012.
On average, 75% of a Tetra Pak package is paperboard, made from wood. We are committed to sourcing from responsibly managed forests and other controlled sources with the aim of using 100% Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC™) certified paperboard. This percentage has risen from 38% in 2012 to 41% in 2013.
Being a sustainable company is not enough for us; we also need a sustainable value chain. Our suppliers and customers represent the biggest opportunities to reduce emission of carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e) in the value chain. Thus, reaching our 2020 climate goal requires collaboration.
