Forestry Guideline

Our Forestry Guideline defines our objectives to guarantee that all the wood fibre we use in our carton packages is traceable from tree to store, that it comes from responsibly managed forests, and that our suppliers achieve traceability (chain-of-custody) and forest management certification. Our ultimate goal is that the wood fibre used in our packaging comes from sustainably managed forests certified to the highest standards, today set by the FSC. Traceability
ProForest, an independent auditing body verifies our reporting systems and assesses the ability of our few yet uncertified suppliers to comply with the requirements of our forestry guidelines The audits have consistently confirmed that our sources are acceptable. We are committed ourselves to FSC chain of custody certification, and we have committed to having all our converting plants certified by 2018 at the latest. As much as 99% of the paperboard we used was fully traceable through certification in 2009.

Forest management
Ultimately we would like all our suppliers to be certified with respect to our preferred certification scheme – currently the FSC. Our suppliers are regularly asked to demonstrate and account for the share of certified wood fibres used to produce paper board for us under a FSC or other certification schemes.

The latest update on our performance can be found on our environmental performance pages.
