Environmental performance
We report our environmental progress based on our global goals and performance indicators. Corporate performance is described yearly on the web in this section, by indicator. Corporate performance is also described in the Environment & Social Report, which is published every two years, and is available both as a downloadable pdf and as a print copy.
We further publish a number of reports at regional or country levels, and some of these are also available as pdfs under "documents" at the bottom right of this page.
Highlights
Climate Change
We have a goal to reduce CO2 emissions by 10% in 2010 as compared to 2005, in absolute terms. The attendant climate programme has qualified us for the WWF Climate Savers programme. In 2007 our CO2 emissions were 7% lower than in 2005, nine sites used Green Power/Renewable Energy Certificates, and we used the same amount of energy in packaging material production as in 2002 – even though our production has increased by 29% over the same period.
Forestry
Our ultimate goal is to have all the paper in our packaging certified to the highest standard – currently FSC. 100% of our sources have been audited and found to be acceptable. The certified chain of custody (from tree stand to paperboard raw material) covers 75% of our paperboard and 46% of our forest sources are FSC or PEFC certified for Sustainable Forest Management.
Recycling
Over 22 billion Tetra Pak beverage cartons were recycled in 2007 – a 5% increase compared to 2006. The number of facilities that recycle beverage carton has increased, and we have partnered with local community organisations and businesses to increase collection and recycling of our packages globally.
