Germany reunifies, the world goes mobile – and gets connected, Diana dies and Forest Gump says “life’s just a box of chocolates”. Tetra Pak acquires Alfa Laval to offer complete solutions from “cow to carton”.
1991 – Solutions “from cow to carton”
Tetra Pak acquires Alfa-Laval, one of the world's largest suppliers of equipment and plants to the food industry, processing industries and agriculture, forming the Tetra Pak Alfa-Laval Group.
1992 – Moving closer to the US market
We move research and development operations for Tetra Rex packaging machines for gable-top packaging to the US to be close to our largest market in this sector.
1993 – Up to 60 billion
The total production of Tetra Pak packages now exceeds 60 billion units a year.
1994 – Go square
Tetra Brik Square, a slender and cost-effective package for pasteurised milk products, is launched.
A new technology for preserving flavour, texture and shelf life in foods, High Pressure Processing (HPP), is launched.
We acquire Dynaplast S.A. of Switzerland adding stretch-blow-moulded PET bottles to our packaging range.
1995 – Say cheese
We acquire Tebel MKT, to help broaden our expertise to include cheese manufacturing equipment.
1996 – Eight and drink
The Tetra Prisma package, an octagonal portion package is launched. Its size and shape make it appealing for consumers of all ages and the large PullTab opening enables the contents to be served in a glass or drink straight from the package.
1997 – PET goes aseptic
We launch a new aseptic packaging system for PET bottles – the Tetra Pak Rotary Aseptic PET Filler.
1998 – Pick up the tab
The new 250 ml Tetra Top GrandTab Mini package is launched in Japan. This package has a slim shape with rounded corners, which makes it easy to grip.
