Our trademarks

Trademarks are an important means for making a company and its products known. With time, trademarks acquire a character of their own and are symbols to the customers and consumers, conveying messages such as quality, reliability and know-how.

Tetra Pak has invested considerable time, effort and money in building strong trademarks. We look upon our trademarks as long-term strategic tools and they are considered to be one of the company’s most valuable assets.

It is very important that our trademarks are protected. This is why we register and monitor the use of our company name, logotypes, and product names.

Tetra Pak

Tetra Pak is the name of our company and is a registered trademark. The name was chosen when the first package was developed. That package had four sides and was in the shape of a tetrahedron (“tetra” means “four” in Greek). Today, the name of that first package is Tetra Classic.

Correct use

Our trademarks must be used correctly, both orally and in writing. Our trademarks should only be used in connection with our products. The designations “cartons”, “carton-based packages” or “containers” can be used as neutral names to describe packages made of paperboard (to be compared with the general term “glass bottles”). When describing, for instance, wine in different types of packaging you could write “wine is sold in glass bottles and carton-based packages”.

Some general principles can be used:

  • Always use the full and proper name of our trademarks;
  • All trademarks should be used with the generic name of the product; e.g. "a Tetra Prisma package", "the Tetra Rex machine";
  • Trademarks are special features and should stand out in a distinct manner. Always write the initial letters in capital; e.g. "Tetra Top";
  • Trademarks should be provided with the designation ® or ™ when used on machines, packages, etc.
  • Since a trademark is not a noun, it should never be used with only an article, in plural or in genitive (when discussing the product Tetra Brik, for example, it must not be described as "Brik", "Briks" or anything other than "Tetra Brik". If referring to the machine, use "the/a Tetra Brik machine" or only "Tetra Brik". Avoid using only "the/a Tetra Brik");
  • Always regard our trademarks as consecutive text and avoid separating them.
