Restoring nature to help mitigate climate change

The world is losing 137 wildlife species every day, largely driven by the clearing of forests for agriculture1. Not only does deforestation cause displacement and extinction of wildlife, but it also increases carbon levels in our atmosphere as forests are responsible for absorbing 30% of all global carbon emissions2. Protecting ecosystems is essential to restore biodiversity and mitigate climate change.

Working together to act for nature

Responsible sourcing and efficient water use are important to minimise harm to ecosystems. All paperboard and plant-based polymers in our carton packages come from certified and other controlled sources, with our plant-based portfolio expanding every year. We are also working with our customers to reduce their material losses, waste and water usage. And together with stakeholders, we launched a pioneering land restoration initiative in Brazil to help restore up to 7,000 hectares in the Atlantic Forest by 2030.

Collaborating to restore a vital ecosystem in Brazil

We partnered with Apremavi, an environmental NGO in Brazil to restore up to 7,000 hectares over 10 years in the Forest of Araucaria, an important ecosystem within the Atlantic Rainforest.

Discover our plant-based portfolio

Our portfolio of plant-based carton packages features responsibly sourced, renewable materials like paperboard and sugarcane polymers used for caps, protective layers and coatings – all from certified responsibly managed and controlled sources.

Reduce water use in your operations

The Tetra Pak® Water Filtering Station (WFS) reduces water consumption by up to 95% in filling lines compared to a packaging line that does not use WFS.

Water savings with membrane filtration

Traditional food processing often results in wastewater being dismissed down the drain, whereas with our membrane filtration, it’s fit for reuse in production processes. In fact, a 75% water removal can be achieved during whey concentration using reverse osmos membrane filtration.

Driving circular solutions

To improve collection, sorting and recycling, we are collaborating with stakeholders across the recycling value chain – and we design our carton packages to increase the fibre content and use of recycled materials.

Decarbonising food systems

We are committed to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in our own operations by 2030, with a similar aspiration across our value chain by 2050 through a combination of reduction, mitigation and compensation measures.

Contributing to resilient food systems

In a collaborative effort to support the transformation of food systems, we are working across our value chain to increase access to safe food, reduce food loss and waste, and build sustainable food value chains.
