Dual approach creates new understanding of spray-drying processes

Models and experiments combined in research project to examine droplet collisions

How can we produce powders that are dust free and easy to dissolve, both for the consumer and in industrial dissolving processes? A powder’s properties are created in a fraction of a second where fast-moving drying drops collide and form powder particles.

A research project at the University of Eindhoven, funded by Tetra Pak, has led to better understanding of spray-drying processes. The research project described in the article resulted in a doctoral thesis for Ph.D. Giulia Finotello in February 2019.
