For hundreds of years, the coconut – fruit of the coconut palm (Cocos nucifera L.) – has been a great source of versatility. It provides food, drink, clothing and shelter, as well as income from its products. Due to its continuous production, the coconut is readily available all year round. Coconut is an important raw material for Asia Pacific. Today, 8 of the top 10 coconut producing countries are in Asia Pacific. Moreover, where coconut water and cream consumption are part of the entrenched in daily consumption habits for a large population in this region.

Once the coconut is opened, its water begins to lose its nutrients as well as its flavour. It is due to the naturally occurring enzymes – peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase – found in coconut water, which when they come into contact with oxygen begin reactions that cause the nutritional and flavour losses. Tetra Pak has the technology to process and pack coconut water in aseptic packages to preserve the qualities of this natural beverage’s delicate aroma, taste and nutritional value.

Tetra Pak lines maintain the natural flavour and nutrition of coconut milk & water. The key thing is to prevent oxygen coming into contact with enzymes in the product, as that causes discolouration. For example, this can be achieved by using a hermetic separator and a nitrogen barrier.

Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) Line

Virgin coconut oil is a sensitive product – oxygen contact renders the oil rancid while high temperature causes discolouration and flavour changes. Tetra Pak® separators with AirTight design ensures no additional oxygen contact to preserve antioxidants in the product. Moreover, AirTight separators can operate at lower temperature with the same efficiency, in order to achieve the highest product quality.

System for continuous direct UHT treatment of liquid food products under aseptic conditions


Tetra Therm® Aseptic VTIS has long represented state-of-the-art direct UHT processing of premium quality, aseptic products. It​ is an aseptic processing unit for continuous UHT treatment with direct steam injection. Mainly for heat-sensitive low-acid products such as milk, enriched milk, cream, soy milk, formulated dairy products, ice-cream mix, dairy desserts as well as ESL (extended shelf life) products. The process is also suitable for smooth products like soups, sauces, non-dairy cream and other starch-based products and can handle smaller particles.


Capacity: 2,000 l/h to 30 000 l/h (variable capacity 1:2 is standard)


Applications: Milk, enriched milk, cream, soymilk, formulated dairy products, ice-cream mix, extended shelf life (ESL) products, dairy desserts, non-dairy cream, and smooth soups and sauces.

Features

•  Steam is injected rapidly into the product, instant heating it from 80° to the UHT temperature, followed by condensation (only 0.1 seconds) and temperature equilibrium. The combination of a high sterilization temperature and a short heating time ensures that microorganisms and spores are deactivated with minimal impact on the product's taste and colour. The process also involves very low fouling, which in turn means outstanding clean-ability, less downtime for cleaning and overall lower cleaning costs
•  Flash cooling within the condenser equipped vacuum vessel minimizes product loses and allows for efficient operation and maintenance
•  Equipped with a floating protection system allows for thermal expansion, giving a longer lifetime and exceptional efficiency
•  Achieve longer running times with the automatic damper
