Our aim is to create cartons made solely from plant-based materials that are fully renewable, fully recyclable and carbon-neutral. It is all part of our journey to deliver the world’s most sustainable food package.
Adolfo Orive, President and CEO of Tetra Pak talks about our ambition to create the ultimate sustainable food package – that secures food safety and availability while reducing the impact on our planet
Renewable materials are the foundation of the world’s most sustainable food package
The greater the share of renewable materials a package contains, the lower the climate impact. That makes renewable packaging an important part of the move towards a low-carbon circular economy.
In 2020, we announced our commitment to reach net-zero GHG emissions in our own operations by 2030, and our ambition is to reach net-zero GHG emissions across the entire value chain by 2050.
Today Tetra Pak® carton packages are collected and recycled across the world; where efficient waste management and recycling infrastructure is in place. In Europe, nearly half of all used beverage cartons are collected for recycling and transformed into a wide range of new products. But we aim for more.
At Tetra Pak®, our sustainability strategy is founded on our commitment to a low-carbon circular economy. In a circular economy, manufacturers design out waste and re-use and recycle materials. Circularity is an essential part of our approach to sustainability.
In 2014, we were the first in our industry to introduce a package made entirely from plant-based renewable materials.
