THE PACK ‘GROWS BACK’

This increased focus on environmentally sound consumption is driving the development of more sustainable business practices and leading towards a circular economy that is low carbon. This is where waste is eliminated and materials and resources are kept in use as long as possible.

Building a low-carbon circular economy

Consumers today want to make more environmentally sound choices. They are more concerned than ever with protecting our planet through sustainable consumption and production.

A circular economy needs a constant inflow of primary raw materials in order to grow. Renewable materials derived from plants or biomass can be replenished and regrown. They are part of nature’s regenerative cycles and, when responsibly managed and sourced, secure availability of primary raw material in the future. Materials made from plants or biomass can already today replace materials from finite sources and thereby contribute to building more resilient economies.

Today, the average renewable material of a Tetra Recart package is at least 67%. Longer term, we are working to make all our packaging from 100% renewable materials – right down to the tiny but essential aluminium protective barrier. As the modern alternative to glass jars and tin cans, we are continually looking to reduce the amount of non-renewable materials used in our packaging and step away from finite non-sustainable resources.

Packages made from renewable materials are essential for preserving the environment for future generations. Renewable resources, like wood, can be replenished naturally over time, while reducing our dependency on finite resources and materials made from fossil fuels helps to lower carbon emissions.

Our packaging is mainly made of paperboard, and that paperboard comes from Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC™) certified forests and other controlled sources. The FSC™ label guarantees that wood fibres can be traced back through the supply chain, and that sustainably forest management – including preventing deforestation – is supported. And it enables consumers to choose brands that are committed to sustainable forestry.

Renewability facts

  • At least 67% of the Tetra Recart package is made of paperboard, which is a renewable material.
  • The only part of a can or glass jar that is renewable is the label.
  • A steel can uses ten times more non-renewable material than a Tetra Recart food package*.
