For more than 56 years, we have supported school feeding and nutrition programmes. In 2018, 66 million children in 59 countries received milk or other nutritious beverages in Tetra Pak packages in their schools.
School feeding programmes improve health and stimulate development by making healthy food accessible – a critical component of SDG2, and in particular its associated targets 2.1 and 2.2. We offer our partners practical support in implementing and evaluating school feeding programmes, while also advising on food safety and quality. We also share best practices on environmental education and recycling in schools. Additionally, we support our customers in developing and launching fortified and nutritious beverages that are being used in school feeding programmes.
The first programme using Tetra Pak packages was launched in 1962 in Mexico, in collaboration with the National System for Integral Family Development. Today, it still supports millions of children.
Data shows that school feeding and nutrition programmes can make a critical difference to a child's physical health and development, particularly in emerging countries where food at school is often their first meal of the day.
