Famous Soda Co, an Australian family-run business, is making a strong statement in the children’s nutrition category with its newly launched product.
By collaborating with Tetra Pak, they found not just a packaging solution, but a strategic collaborator that enabled them to meet their dual goals of functionality and sustainability. Tetra Pak worked side by side with Famous Soda Co, connecting them with co-packers, refining product design and ensuring smooth product rollout. Helping them to “nourish Australia’s little champions”.
The company launched its Famous Kids Protein Shake for children in 2024. Available in chocolate and strawberry flavours, the shake provides 10 grams of Australian whey protein, along with essential vitamins and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, and vitamin B6, while containing no added sugar or preservatives and using all-natural flavours and colours to earn a 5-star health rating by Food Standards Australia and New Zealand.
Determined to find a packaging solution that was both kid-friendly and environmentally friendly, Famous Soda Co collaborated with registered dieticians and paediatricians during development. This solution needed to offer optimal portioning, supporting recommended nutritional intake without overconsumption, and provide the portability and mess-free design essential for on-the-go consumption and suitability for lunchboxes and active lifestyles.
Tetra Pak worked closely with Famous Soda Co, sharing expert product development advice and identifying the ideal packaging solution for the Famous Kids Protein Shake. After careful consideration and refinement, the Tetra Brik Aseptic 250 Edge carton was selected, a choice strategically designed to balance convenience with the recommended nutritional portion for vitamin and mineral intake.
The grab-and-go Tetra Brik® Aseptic carton design offers unparalleled convenience, making the shake perfectly suitable for lunchboxes and active children. Its 250 mL portion size is deliberately chosen for optimal dietary intake, while resealable caps ensure mess-free consumption on-the-move.
Tetra Pak’s aseptic technology protects the perishable contents without refrigeration or added preservatives, extending shelf life and safeguarding the 10 grams of protein, essential vitamins and all-natural flavours. Beyond these functional benefits, the packaging strongly aligns with Famous Soda Co’s sustainability goals. Made with renewable material content, the cartons significantly reduce plastic use and boast a low carbon footprint, emphasising their commitment to healthier choices for both children and the environment.
Since its launch in late 2024, Famous Kids Protein Shake quickly established a strong presence in the market. It is now widely available in major Australian supermarkets and convenience stores. Demonstrating its nutritional credibility and suitability for children, Famous Soda Co is now a recommended beverage supplier for school canteens across Australia, officially endorsed by Education Australia. Furthermore, the shake has achieved international recognition, now being exported to 10 different markets, a testament to its broad appeal and the robust, scalable solution provided by Tetra Pak packaging.
Famous Soda Co plans to expand its portfolio of functional drinks for both children and adults, with Tetra Pak remaining a key collaborator in these future endeavours. This ongoing collaboration highlights a shared commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable, and convenient beverage solutions that meet evolving consumer needs. The success of the Famous Kids Protein Shake demonstrates how smart packaging can help make food safer, healthier and more accessible for families everywhere.
