Soya Handbook

Soya has been used for centuries in the Far East. More recently it has also been used by vegetarians and as a food ingredient in the western world. And today, the consumption of soya products is increasing.

The book provides extensive, general and semi-technical information on soya. It discusses soya quality aspects, processing and packaging, as well as the health and nutritional benefits of soya.

The growth of soya consumption

The consumption of packaged soya beverages is expected to grow globally at an annual rate of 20 percent. This consumption growth was significantly fuelled by the October 1999 approval by the Food and Drug Administration in the United States, which states that 25 grams of soya protein a day in conjunction with a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease. Other factors that contribute to the growth of soya beverages include innovation of new products to meet consumer needs, expansion into new arenas such as convenience stores and coffee houses, taste improvements and low cost of soya protein.

The Soya Knowledge Centre

Tetra Pak has more than 40 years of experience in the processing and packaging of soya beverages. The Soya Knowledge Centre was established in 2001 and is working to leverage this experience. This includes product development, technical knowledge, consumer knowledge, and innovative packaging and processing solutions.
The Soya Handbook aims to share and expand the knowledge base of our Soya Knowledge Centre. We hope that the Soya Handbook not only adds value but also serves as an extension to your own knowledge on soya.
