On 3 July, Tetra Pak inaugurated the expansion of its packaging material production plant in Binh Duong, Vietnam. This significant milestone boosts the plant’s annual capacity from 12 billion to 30 billion packages, enabling faster delivery of innovative and sustainable aseptic carton solutions to food and beverage producers across Southeast Asia.

The expansion reflects Tetra Pak’s ongoing commitment to making food safe and available everywhere. By scaling up production, we’re not only meeting growing regional demand but also supporting our customers in achieving sustainable growth - true to our global vision.

Innovative packaging to meet regional demand

Tetra Pak beverage cartons offer a shelf life of up to 12 months, enabling safe, high-quality food and beverages to reach consumers wherever they are. These cartons are ideal for a wide range of products, including coconut cream and milk, plant-based beverages, dairy, juices, nectars, and still drinks—perfectly aligned with the evolving preferences of Southeast Asian markets.

To meet the rising demand across the region, we are expanding our packaging portfolio with 15 new formats, made possible by the latest investment to add a second packaging material production line in our Binh Duong facility.

New formats have been made available, in a variety of shapes and sizes, from our best-selling Tetra Brik® Aseptic, Tetra Prisma® Aseptic and Tetra Wedge® Aseptic packaging ranges.

These additions bring our total packaging portfolio to over 26 formats, offering our customers greater flexibility and innovations to meet diverse consumer needs.

Thanks to these new additional packaging formats and the increase in production capacity at Binh Duong, food and beverage manufacturers can now enjoy a wider range of locally-supplied Tetra Pak carton packages​ and can also explore the complete Tetra Pak end to end offering of packaging, processing, services and automation portfolio.

Complementing this is our eco-system of tried and tested Tetra Pak marketing services which uses approaches such as fast-prototyping at its regional innovation centres in Vietnam and Thailand Bloom to help players select the package format and size to meet their specific needs, bring new concepts to market quickly or to move from alternative packaging types to Tetra Pak carton packages for long-life products.

Quality is a cornerstone in everything we do

To live up to our promise to make food safe and available everywhere, quality is a cornerstone in everything we do and adhering to World Class Manufacturing methodologies throughout our manufacturing processes is key.

From the initial design phase of the plant to ongoing operations, World Class Manufacturing has been a core part of the factory leading to JIPM Excellence Award in 2024.​

And prior to this, Tetra Pak Binh Duong was one of the first factories in Vietnam to achieve ​LEED Version 4 Gold certification and is certified for quality and safety with ISO 9001​, ISO 14001​ and ISO 45001​.

Other world-class standards achieved are BRC A+, Halal and SMETA.

Technology and World Class Manufacturing

Built using state-of-the art Swedish technology and on par with Tetra Pak global standards across its printing, extrusion coating and finishing processes, Binh Duong notably features:

  • Application of World Class Manufacturing approaches and standards which have been integrated into factory operations,
  • A quality barrier system, using high-resolution inline scanning cameras, in combination with ultra-bright LED lighting and AI, enabling defect detection and classification in real-time,
  • Climate-control systems in place to preserve and maintain packaging material quality during production and warehousing,
  • Examples of latest technology applications – such as the highly-automated slitting machine, one of the first such pieces of equipment at Tetra Pak, which has been installed in the finishing section.

Sustainability in our operations

At Tetra Pak, sustainability is embedded from how we design our packaging to how we operate our facilities. At our Binh Duong factory, we are constantly improving resource efficiency to reduce our environmental footprint.

Our efforts are already delivering measurable results:

  • 13% reduction in energy consumption since 2020, achieved through machine performance upgrades and minimizing energy losses.
  • 5 million litres of water–nearly 19% of total consumption–are recovered from condensation and reused for irrigation.
  • Waste output reduced to below 3%, meeting annual targets through World Class Manufacturing practices.
  • Over 5% of energy needs are now met by renewable sources, thanks to 5,900+ m² of solar panels installed on the factory roof.

These milestones reflect our commitment to protecting the planet while delivering value to our customers and communities.

Be natural sustainable packaging

Sustainable by design

Tetra Pak aseptic beverage cartons are made primarily from renewable materials, with paperboard sourced from responsibly managed forests and other controlled sources. We are continuously working to further reduce our reliance on fossil-based materials and increase the share of renewables in our packaging.

Our cartons are also recyclable where collection and sorting infrastructure exists. Across South Asia, our sustainability experts are actively collaborating with customers and other members of the collection and recycling value chain to build and strengthen recycling systems in order to transform more and more used cartons into valuable new products.

By advancing recycling and using renewable materials, we can help protect natural resources and build a more sustainable future for generations to come.
