COMPLETING THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY

It’s no longer enough to think about issues such as climate and waste in isolation. Today, we urgently need to look at them together. We must complete the circular economy so it takes into account not just recycling and reuse but also the carbon impact of raw materials and manufacturing.

PLANT-BASED MATERIALS ARE FOREVER

Renewable raw materials are essential to a low-carbon circular economy. Plant-based materials like wood can be replenished naturally over time, reducing our dependency on finite resources. And when materials are responsibly grown and managed, they can contribute to a positive climate impact by promoting sustainable forest management and protecting biodiversity.

STILL PROTECTING

Carton packages can be turned into valuable materials that can be recycled many times, locking in carbon for longer. Wood fibre content can become cardboard or paper while polymer and aluminium can be turned into building materials

THE ANSWER IS ZERO

To be Planet Positive, industry needs to move to zero carbon across its operations and the entire value chain. In 2016, we became the first company in the food packaging industry to have our climate impact reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets (SBT) initiative.

LESS WASTE, MORE FOOD

There’s no room for waste in the Planet Positive mindset. But today, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, around 8% of man-made greenhouse gas emissions come from food waste. With low-waste processes, and packaging that prolongs the life of food and keeps it from being spoiled, the food and beverage industry can help solve the food waste problem.

TRAVELLING LIGHTER

With lightweight materials from renewable sources and rectangular pack sizes, carton packaging allows food and beverage products to be lighter and take up less space. Transportation can be fuel-efficient, reducing CO2 emissions.
