Every community has different waste management needs. That's why we work alongside local government units (LGUs), environmental officers and our implementation partner GNS Services to explore practical solutions that fit local needs.
Together, we are helping improve waste segregation and collection, including increasing the recovery of food and beverage cartons. By collecting more cartons for recycling, communities can help reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill while keeping valuable materials in use for longer.
Our collaboration with LGUs has reached communities across Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Central Luzon, parts of Northern Luzon, the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, Bacolod in the Western Visayas.
A key initiative is the Sorters Support Program, which creates additional income opportunities for waste sorters by supporting the collection and recycling of used food and beverage cartons. In working with public and private material recovery facilities, sorters can sell the cartons they collect and earn points that can be exchanged for essentials such as rice and hygiene products. Since 2022, more than 1,500 waste sorters have participated in the programme, helping turn used cartons into a source of value for both people and communities.
