At one of its sites Brazilian dairy Laticínios Jussara produces more than 365 million packages for a wide portfolio distributed across the country. However, an industry comparison showed that the plant’s equipment performance ranked last in Brazil, with issues related to unplanned stoppages and production losses. While the issues were partly due to low predictability and manual data collection, the plant also needed to improve its organisational culture.
Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) was implemented with the aim to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and eliminate waste and unneeded processes. TPM technique was combined with monitoring and production processes, and automated data collection was implemented to support a higher standardisation level.
