Tetra Pak's 2021 Sustainability Report Reveals New Approaches to a Better Future

Tetra Pak shares recent efforts to protect food, people and planet as the importance of sustainable practices continues to grow.

DENTON, Texas (August 18, 2021) — Tetra Pak has released its 2021 Sustainability Report, sharing the various ways in which the company has worked to protect food, people and the planet this past year.

As the 23rd report of its kind to be published, the world-leading processing and packaging solutions company shares the progress being made towards their environmental, social and corporate governance strategies each year. While the impacts of last year’s events continue to drastically shape our world, Tetra Pak’s commitment to sustainability across the entire company has never been more resolute.

"We have been faced with many challenges this past year," said Jeff Fielkow, President and CEO, Tetra Pak U.S. and Canada in the market supplement report. "And while where we work and how we work may have changed, our commitment to protecting what’s good has never wavered.”

Highlights from Tetra Pak’s global operations include:

  • Support for over 64 million children in 45 countries to receive milk or other nutritious beverages, despite the pandemic. School feeding programs are key to children globally receiving the nutrition they need.
  • Establishing Diversity & Inclusion panels across the globe to address issues at a more local level and to embed accountability deeper within the organization.
  • Achievement of a -70% GHG reduction in operations from 2010 to 2020 and committing to reach net zero emissions in Tetra Pak operations by 2030.

This year's report highlights many accomplishments towards a more sustainable future in the U.S. and Canada Market, including:

  • Working in partnership with customers to guarantee continuity of safe food supplies throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Educating consumers and the industry on aseptic technology and why cartons are a more sustainable packaging option.
  • Creating the School Milk campaign to encourage school districts and dairy producers to consider shelf-stable dairy milk.
  • Delivering at-home safety kits to all employees with hand sanitizers, face coverings, and educational materials to help employees and their families stay safe and healthy.
  • Growing the Core Wellbeing program to help employees and their loved ones achieve, maintain and protect personal health and wellbeing goals.
  • Advancing carton recycling alongside the Carton Council of North America, including the launch of a Master Recycler program with the city of Madison, Wisconsin, and Sustain Dane.
  • Introducing the very first Tetra Pak® carton in the U.S. and Canada to use a plant-based polymer coating.

Looking forward, Tetra Pak has bold aspirations to lead the sustainability transformation. In November of 2020, the company announced their ambition to create the world’s most sustainable package, a goal the company contends cannot be reached without innovative collaboration, considerations towards a low-carbon circular economy, and a broad view of the entire supply chain.
