Green Spot Company Limited is one of the top food and beverage producers in Thailand. Founded in 1958, it released the first ready-to-drink soymilk product under the legendary Vitamilk brand. Since then, the company has expanded its offering to include a range of carbonated and non-carbonated drinks, and it exports its products worldwide.
Green Spot knows that it's people make the difference, and it places great emphasis on having “knowledge workers, knowledge engineers and knowledge managers” to achieve optimal performance. This is even more the case with today’s digitalised production lines and the Internet of Things.
Green Spot’s challenge was to find a training platform that is easily updated and simple to use. It also wanted training content to be readily available to refresh knowledge. The learning curve (first described by the psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus) suggests that we tend to halve our memory of newly learned knowledge in a matter of days or weeks.
We introduced Green Spot to our digital platform, Connected Workforce from Tetra Pak, powered by POKA (an IFS company). This new training solution is always relevant, just in time, and easily refreshed. Designed for today’s digitally savvy workers, it features short training videos, along with a system to track staff competencies. Training video libraries are based on our customer maintenance checklist for Tetra Pak processing and packaging lines, as well as years of experience training operators.
– Supadej Chirasavinuprapand, General Manager – Engineering and Project, Acting General Manager – Manufacturing, Green Spot Company Limited
We integrated Connected Workforce into a customised package for Green Spot that also includes ongoing support from our services team. To set up the platform we placed QR codes next to the machines, giving operators easy access to the videos right where production happens. If operators have a question or forget a procedure, they can easily refresh their knowledge.
We also introduced digital forms and online machine manuals with the platform. These prompt employees instantly for the right information as needed, which helps reduce mean time to recovery and prevent quality issues, eliminating waste and protecting food safety.
Green Spot managers also use the platform to certify their teams’ skills. When an employee has finished watching a video, Connected Workforce marks that skill as completed. The employee moves on to the next level, and after viewing all the videos, asks the manager for endorsement. Managers track the competences of their team this way and can also reset skills in the system periodically to refresh operator knowledge.
“Production lines are linked to our Production Line Monitoring System (PLMS), which monitors machine performance. That is one side of the equation, but the human side is just as important. Connected Workforce allows our customers to train their staff and track skills. It enables factory workers to convert issues to one-point lessons, thereby retaining knowledge in the factory, and in turn producing more, with higher quality and less packaging material waste.”
– Charles ST Chan, Product Specialist, Tetra Pak
Connected Workforce offers a fast payback on the investment cost. We provide all videos for Tetra Pak lines, but our customers can also add content for other equipment, to be readily available to refresh knowledge instantly.
By enhancing operator competences, Connected Workforce has helped Green Spot become one of the top three performers in Southeast Asia. This is supported by a benchmarking study we conducted on Tetra Pak® A3/Flex machines in Thailand, led by Kachen Jaturong, Services Sales Manager, Tetra Pak.
Connected Workforce was installed at Green Spot at the end of 2023. By the end of 2024 the company’s machines had reached the top position for operational performance, with Line Machine Mechanical Efficiency (LMME) of 99.8, and Production Time Utilisation (PTU) of 89.1.
