What is retortable packing?

Tetra Recart® is retortable. But what does this mean?

The process known as retorting allows filled products to be sterilised within the package, rather than sterilising contents and pacakaging separately, and then combining.


We invented a unique packaging material and a new forming and sealing technique to make this possible. It allows new flavour combinations to be packaged more safely, as the entire package can undergo withstand heat treating in a high pressure steam chamber or ‘retorted’.

As a result:

The goodness is locked in, from the outside, so it’s safe for consumers until opened.

A huge variety of foods can be stored at the peak of their perfection: providing a long shelf-life, optimal taste and great texture.
