Tetra Pak and WWF renew commitment to recycling awareness through long-term education programme

Tetra Pak and WWF have relaunched their recycling awareness drive in Pakistan, renewing their long-standing commitment to educating schoolchildren about recycling and responsible waste management.

With a shared commitment to building a cleaner and greener Pakistan, WWF-Pakistan and Tetra Pak have been working together since 2017 to promote responsible waste management among school children.

Through this ongoing partnership, more than 26,025 students have been engaged in over 380 awareness sessions across 222 schools in nine major cities of Pakistan including Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Wah Cantt, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Khanpur-District Rahim Yar Khan, fostering a deeper understanding of why recycling matters.

So far, students from 126 participating schools have collected a total of 2,504 kgs of Used Beverage Cartons (UBCs), which is approximately 138,122 cartons being diverted from landfills. This hands-on effort marks a significant step toward sustainable behavioural change.

“Visual aids including educational animation videos, engaging storytelling sessions, interactive group activities such as arts and crafts sessions, and learning how to create useful items using recycled Tetra Pak cartons, are meant to help the students realise the importance of real-world challenges such as environment conservation, waste reduction, material reuse, and waste recycling,” remarks Muhammad Bin Shahzad, Sustainability Manager, Tetra Pak Pakistan.

The programme aims to make sustainability and recycling an exciting and memorable learning experience for young minds. These sessions also underscore Tetra Pak’s firm commitment towards promoting sustainability.
