Pioneering roof tiles and flat sheets from recycled polyAl materials in Mexico

Located 60 km from Mexico City and established in 2013, Placove specialises in producing roof tiles and flat sheets from recycled polyAl1 materials. Facing challenges with quality and product rejections, Placove sought support from Tetra Pak to address these issues and enhance its production capabilities.

Background and initiative – teaming up to improve product quality

Placove encountered difficulties related to quality and product rejections, which hindered its growth and market acceptance. With Tetra Pak's guidance and technical assistance, Placove aimed to overcome quality challenges and transform recycled polyAl materials into high-demand products.

Results – upgraded equipment and capacity

Tetra Pak provided valuable advice and technical support to Placove while installing a polyAl cleaning line in 2014. This support led to a significant improvement in production quality and reduced rejections to a mere 3%.

Placove has become a major player in the Mexican market for recycled polyAl materials, currently purchasing 50.6% of the available polyAl supply. Their roof tiles, renowned for their thermal and permeability properties, are highly sought after by poultry and pig farms. Additionally, the demand for flat sheets made from polyAl has steadily increased, particularly in the construction and furniture industries.

With Tetra Pak's support, Placove has achieved full operational capacity, producing 10,500 roof tiles monthly. The company's reliability and reputation have grown, and they now operate as the primary local producer of roof tiles and flat sheets made from recycled polyAl extracted from cartons.

Looking ahead – increased production and expansion to new markets

Placove is expanding its production capacity, with plans to increase polyAl cleaning capabilities by adding a new centrifuge and a crusher line. Moreover, acquiring a second hot press will double their production capacity, reaching an impressive annual output of 240,000 pieces. Supported by Tetra Pak, Placove aims to explore new market opportunities in coastal areas and tropical climates across Mexico. As the pioneer in recycled polyAl applications, Placove's growth signifies a positive step towards sustainable roofing solutions in the country.
