Science and Innovation Talks

To inspire a creative and innovative mindset and to further build on our strengths, we’ve renewed and extended our collaboration with Lund University, a globally top-100 ranked institution in disciplines including the Humanities, Technical Sciences and Social Sciences. Together we will continue exploring future-focused solutions in areas such as food technology, packaging materials, and circular systems. By sharing knowledge and combining expertise, we work to ensure our place at the forefront of research and innovation so we can deliver solutions that not only meet the needs of our customers but drive their business forward.

Human data, better design – insights from the Humanities Lab

At the Humanities Lab at Lund University, researchers explore this question using tools like motion capture, eye tracking, and virtual reality.

These technologies present exciting possibilities. For example, motion capture can help us analyse how operators interact with the equipment, leading to more ergonomic and efficient designs that can improve co-worker health and well-being while reducing operational expenses and resource use. On the marketing side, eye tracking can reveal how consumers perceive packaging on supermarket shelves or how operators navigate our software interfaces. Insights like these can drive smarter, more user-friendly solutions that can streamline production, improve profitability and enhance growth for our customers.

What is the Humanities Lab?

The Humanities Lab at Lund University is a cross-disciplinary research infrastructure that brings together expertise from the humanities, social sciences, and technology. During this edition of the Science and Innovation Talks, researchers from this department will showcase how their work can be applied to real-world challenges in our industry. Tetra Pak speakers will also share how these insights can be translated into tangible benefits for our products, and ultimately our customers.

Frida will present an overview of the Lab and introduce some of the possibilities it offers, illustrated with examples from user projects.

'Diederick
Diederick C Niehorster, Researcher at the Lund University Humanities Lab and the Department of Psychology at Lund University

Diederick’s research expertise includes vision science, eye-tracking methodology, testing of eye-tracking and Virtual Reality equipment, including group-scale simultaneous eye movement recording. In his talk, Diederick will explain what eye-tracking is, how it can be applied and share compelling examples from both screen-based and real-world environments.

'Stefan
Stefan Lindgren, Research Engineer at the Lund University Humanities Lab

Stefan leads the Virtual Reality department at the Humanities Lab, where he spends much of his time experimenting with 3D scanners, drones, cameras, VR headsets, and motion capture systems. He will explore some of the more unexpected applications of motion capture and 3D documentation, sharing fascinating examples that range from reconstructing Viking sail-manufacturing techniques to creating live-streamed avatars for sign language communication.
