The certified recycled polymers used in the caps, tops and coatings of some of our carton packages are produced under the RSB (Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials) chain of custody attribution method. This means that the plastics are made of a mix of recycled and non-recycled materials, but that the corresponding mass of recycled materials has been tracked throughout the Tetra Pak supply chain. This is verified by a third-party auditor, according to the RSB Chain of Custody Procedure, which forms part of the RSB Advanced Products certification2.
Since 2020 two of our factories in Europe have been certified to produce packaging material and additional materials with certified recycled polymers according to the RSB Chain of Custody mass balance attribution method. We will continue deployment of attributed recycled polymers to achieve a minimum of 10% recycled plastics in packages sold in Europe by 2025. Our end goal: for all our packaging to use responsibly sourced renewable or recycled polymers, ending the extraction of fossil feedstock.
