Tetra Pak has sustainability and innovation in our genes. Our entire existence is based on an innovation that changed the way food is handled and distributed in a sustainable and healthy way. Since then, we have lived up to our promise to protect what’s good; food, people and the planet we live on.
Our work continues. We lead the development with innovative products and solutions to deliver packaging for the future.
Now it will be even easier for consumers in the Nordic region to choose sustainable products. Tetra Rex® is the world’s first packaging to be given the Nordic Swan environmental label. The Nordic Swan is one of the most well-known and trusted environmental labels for consumer products in the Nordic countries. Do what half of all consumers in the Nordic countries do: look for the Swan label next time you shop.
With increased demand on our food producers for a reduced environmental impact, packaging must be part of the solution. Cardboard packaging can contribute to reduced emissions of carbon dioxide and lower the proportion of fossil plastics used, without impairing the ability of the carton to properly preserve food.
Society in general is working to make a shift from a linear to a circular economy where an increasing number of both products and materials can be reused. That’s why our packages are always recyclable.
We can offer improved traceability and transparency using new technologies and digitisation that make it possible for consumers to make sustainable choices. Through traceability data, we can share valuable information with more people and make the good choice easy.
We are passionate about climate-smart packaging that makes the good choice easy for you when you shop. Tetra Pak packages has a lower environmental impact than equivalent glass and plastic packaging. It is also recyclable. Our packages are certified by FSC™, which guarantees responsible forest management. We have already delivered more than 500 billion FCS-labelled packages worldwide.
The labels on our packaging make it easy to make a good choice. Our most sustainable packages can be labelled with the Swan label, Carbon Trust and the Leaf, which indicates plant-based plastics.
By carrying out life cycle analyses, we can determine what environmental impact our packaging has compared to others and can clearly demonstrate its low environmental impact relative to other packaging materials. Our work is also recognised by a number of organisations that help consumers make good choices. We are the first in the world to offer a beverage carton approved by the Nordic Swan environmental label.
Tetra Pak is a world leader in plant-based materials for carton packages. Packaging made from plant-based plastics has a lower environmental impact than fossil plastics. Our goal is for all plastic components in our packaging shall be plant-based to enable us to stop using fossil plastics entirely.
We are already on our way there. Up to and during 2018, we supplied over half a billion packages made from plant-based plastics throughout the Nordic countries.
