Recon Polymers has been developing a new technology to recycle PolyAl for a few years. In 2017, they built a pilot plant to further improve the technology, and with support from Tetra Pak, it led to a commercial plant that started operations in the beginning of 2021. This plant has a capacity of 7500T per year and can be further upscaled to achieve double this capacity.
Tetra Pak is working with Recon Polymers to further use the available capacity and also supporting them in finding end markets. This project is showing the full recyclability of carton packages and creating value for the polyAl, which is in turn raising the overall interest in recycling carton packages in the Netherlands.
