In 2017, Tetra Pak invested in a recycling line with Obeikan Paper Industries (OPI) located in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, after a series of trials. The investment was the first of its kind not only in Saudi Arabia but in the whole Arabian region.
The trials tested the collection of used carton packages, as well as the use of the pulp generated by the recycling process in the production of end products such as tissue boxes, toothpaste boxes, biscuit boxes, etc.
The state-of-the art equipment have shown to efficiently recycle collected used cartons. The new line should be running in 2021.
