Our 25,000 employees in more than 160 countries are united by our purpose to make food safe and available, everywhere. We promise to protect what’s good, protecting food, people and the planet.
We protect our own workforce by building a culture that ensures their safety, health and well-being. We create a truly diverse workforce environment, where every employee is respected, included, engaged, offered fair opportunities, and treated equally irrespective of their backgrounds.
Our health and safety standards are critical to ensuring fair and safe working conditions everywhere we operate. We continue to protect individuals to ensure they are free from harm during every project and activity. We aim for zero accidents and work-related illnesses.
Our Mental Wellbeing Programme raises awareness and creates a dialogue within our teams to destigmatise poor mental well-being and encourage employees to seek support if needed. We have developed tools, training, and support services and launched an external counselling service.
We aim for a diverse workforce, where everyone feels included at work. We recognise that certain groups and individuals need focused support to overcome the obstacles to achieving this. In 2020, we created regional Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) panels to better address issues at local levels and embed accountability within the organisation.
Driving D&I across our business has resulted in specific action plans, for instance closing the gap in women's leadership and providing growth opportunities for all. Our leaders have been trained in inclusive leadership, and we will continue this to ensure all leaders have been reached.
We also have a global Speak Up campaign to prevent bullying, discrimination and harassment and enable employees to feel more confident to speak up about their experiences.
Re-skilling and up-skilling are vital to ensure that our people are empowered in their development. We offer various learning opportunities to provide training in the flow of work and allow employees to be ‘in the driving seat’ of their development. Our leadership programmes foster transformational leadership for delivering our 2030 Strategy.
For example, Future Talent Programme creates meaningful opportunities for the next generation to build skills. It provides on-the-job training with development in a range of skills with all participants ready to take the next step in their career upon graduation from the programme.
More about careers opportunities
We engage with people by creating a culture of personal responsibility, diversity, innovation, and respect for human rights. To monitor performance, we run biannual employee engagement surveys to check that our employees continue to believe in and uphold our values. In 2021, we started an internal training programme to help employees understand the meaning of our promise “Protects What’s Good” and how each employee can help to protect food, people, and the planet.

2By positive impact we mean driving better outcome for our own workforce, workers and communities in our supply chain, workers in collection and recycling and people in our value chain affected by climate change and the transition to net-zero in the areas of labour, discrimination, hazardous working conditions and sustainable income, among others.
