Our packaging solutions protect food without the need for preservatives, additives or refrigeration, helping make safe, nutritious and flavoursome products available to more of the world’s rapidly growing population, even in remote areas with no cold chain.
How to increase access to safe, nutritious food
Fighting hunger has been on the global agenda for many decades, with a significant number of NGOs and political, private and non-governmental initiatives working towards decreasing malnutrition. In many ways, this work has paid off. Between 2005 and 2013, the number of undernourished people in the world was on the steady decline. Then, beginning in 2014, the number began to rise again. Today, undernourishment has been further accelerated by COVID-19, with more than 690 million people going to bed hungry every night.
At Tetra Pak, we want to use our expertise, knowledge and packaging and processing solutions to help increase access to safe, nutritious food, because of the critical role it plays in enabling people to live healthier lives.
Securing food safety and availability
Our solutions can play a role in giving more people access to safe food. Our packaging protects food without the need for preservatives, additives or refrigeration, helping make safe, nutritious and flavoursome products available to more of the world’s rapidly growing population, even in remote areas with no cold chain. And through systemwide collaboration with our customers and partners, we commit to ensuring millions more people have access to safe food.
Innovating with customers to improve the nutritional value of food
We help customers improve the nutritional value of food and launch fortified and nutritious food and beverages. We constantly look for innovative ways to reduce the sugar, salt and fat content while maintaining the essential nutrients consumers need.
Collaborating across the value chain to increase access to safe, nutritious food
For almost 60 years, we’ve collaborated with customers, governments, partners and NGOs to help ensure nutritious food and beverage products are made available for the people who need them. For example, we participate in the development of School Feeding Programmes, where today 68 million children get access to nutritious beverages at school through Tetra Pak packages.
We have also collaborated with customers and partners to provide 54,000 smallholder farmers with technical assistance to help increase milk production. The farmers are also given access to local dairy processors to help ensure the safe processing and packaging of the milk. This helps reduce food loss along the value chain and expands communities’ access to safe milk while increasing local smallholders’ income.
We will continue to collaborate with partners across the value chain and to provide innovative food processing and packaging solutions – to help making food safe and available, everywhere.
